Esther hazy

I thought I'd share some stories composed by Esther over her time at Woodland Nursery as they demonstrate a commitment to modernism that has long since elapsed contemporary British literary culture, barring David Peace and Julia Donaldson.

SHe has chosen to re-imagine some classics of the childhood canon in, what professional critic might describe as, a very spare style. Others of her own invention, potentially, nod to her father's baser instincts.

Enjoy. They are taken from a selection of stories from her Helicopter Stories (Faber,£79.99) and are worthy of our consideration.

The London "Prat" Train

Wow, once upon a time was little plots animal.

He's jumping up in the sky, she did jump in the "hammod[sic] "

She's a lion she in private London "prat" train. She into house then she gone somebody house.

Auto-da-Cow

There was a cow in the care driving hotel. Her leg hurts, she's banngged[sic] her leg, cow needs medicine.

Vet wrote his letter to cow, cow take her medicine, then she was better and eat her food.

The Three Little Pigs

Pigs and wolf blow the house down the sticks. New house did blow down. The bricks house didn't blow down. THE END.

Moving stuff I'm sure you'll agree, and now some photographs....
